Getting Started

How do I calculate my shift value?

Open ShiftWorth and you'll land on the Shift Calculator tab. Enter your base hourly rate, select your shift type (day or night), day type (weekday, weekend, or holiday), and hours worked. Tap "Calculate" to see your full breakdown including differentials, overtime, tax estimates, and net take-home pay.

How do I set up my differential rates?

Go to the Settings tab (gear icon) and look for the "Differentials" section. Here you can customize:

Check your most recent pay stub or employment contract for the exact differential rates your employer uses.

Pro Features

How does the 7-day trial work?

ShiftWorth includes a 7-day in-app trial for Pro features. After the trial, the Free features remain available and you can choose whether to unlock Pro with a one-time App Store purchase. There is no recurring subscription.

How do I restore my Pro purchase?

If you've previously purchased Pro and need to restore it (e.g., on a new device), go to Settings and tap "Restore Purchases." Make sure you're signed in with the same Apple ID you used for the original purchase. If the restore doesn't work:

  1. Verify you're signed in to the correct Apple ID in Settings > Apple ID
  2. Check your purchase history in the App Store under your account
  3. Restart the app and try restoring again
  4. If the issue persists, contact us at support@shiftworthapp.com

How do I request a refund?

Since all purchases are processed through Apple's App Store, refund requests must be submitted directly to Apple:

  1. Open the App Store app on your device
  2. Tap your profile picture, then "Purchase History"
  3. Find the ShiftWorth Pro purchase and tap "Report a Problem"
  4. Follow Apple's instructions to request a refund

Troubleshooting

My calculation seems wrong. What should I check?

If your calculation doesn't match your expectations, verify these common causes:

  1. Base rate: Confirm you entered your correct base hourly rate (not your effective rate or annual salary divided by hours)
  2. Shift type: Ensure "Night" is selected if you work overnight shifts; differential rates only apply when the correct shift type is selected
  3. Day type: Confirm whether your shift falls on a weekday, weekend, or holiday
  4. Differential rates: Go to Settings and verify your differential rates match your employer's actual rates (check your pay stub or HR documentation)
  5. Overtime review: Week Log and work-period review are estimate tools. Employer rules, union contracts, and state law can produce a different final payroll result.
  6. Hours entered: Make sure you're entering the correct number of hours (e.g., 12.0 for a 12-hour shift, not 12.5 which would include an unpaid 30-minute break)

The app is running slowly or crashing

Try these steps:

  1. Close the app completely (swipe up from the app switcher) and reopen it
  2. Restart your device
  3. Make sure you're running the latest version of ShiftWorth from the App Store
  4. Ensure your device is running iOS 17.0 or later
  5. If the problem persists, email us at support@shiftworthapp.com with your device model and iOS version

Widgets aren't updating

iOS controls when widgets refresh and may delay updates to conserve battery. To troubleshoot:

  1. Remove the widget from your home screen and re-add it
  2. Open the ShiftWorth app to trigger a data refresh
  3. Make sure ShiftWorth is not restricted in Settings > General > Background App Refresh
  4. Restart your device

Understanding Your Calculations

What is FLSA blended overtime?

Under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), overtime must be calculated using your "regular rate of pay," which includes all shift differentials, not just your base hourly rate. This is called the "blended rate."

Example: If you earn $31/hr base rate plus a $5/hr night differential, overtime review may need to account for the higher regular rate instead of using only the base rate. ShiftWorth helps you model that estimate and keep the assumptions visible.

Employer rules, state law, and contract language can change the outcome, so treat the result as an evidence-backed estimate rather than payroll advice.

How does paycheck verification work?

The Paycheck Verification feature (Pro) lets you compare your calculated shift earnings against what your hospital actually paid. Enter the amount from your pay stub and ShiftWorth will highlight likely discrepancy reasons, the ruleset context used, and a PDF proof packet you can share with HR or your union representative.

How does the tax estimate work?

ShiftWorth estimates withholding using your saved filing status, pay frequency, W-4 inputs, and 2026 federal and state tables. These are still planning estimates and will not capture every deduction, benefit, or employer payroll choice. For formal tax planning, use your employer's payroll tools or a tax professional.

Data & Privacy

Can I export my shift history?
